WHO: KZQX
broadcasts from studios in Chalk Hill, Texas, located about
ten miles
south of Longview. It is owned and operated by Chalk Hill
Communications, LLC.
WHAT: KZQX
started out in 2002 as one of the first Low Power FM
stations to receive an FCC license in Texas. In November
2009, we acquired a new commercial frequency and moved to
100.3 FM. KZQX now broadcasts from our own
500 foot tower which is located about two miles north of
Lake Cherokee. That puts our signal closer to heavily
populated areas in Longview and Marshall. We can also be
found in Tyler on 97.9 FM.
“Unforgettable QX-FM,” is locally programmed and operated.
Our format is a one of a kind. There is nothing quite like
it. It is a locally grown product that evolved without the
use of consultants or satellite services in some remote
city. Each song has been individually selected based on
feedback from our local listeners.
WHERE: "America’s
Original Classics" on QX-FM is heard on 100.3 FM in the
Longview, Kilgore, Marshall, Henderson Carthage and Chalk
Hill area. We also can be found on a translator in Tyler,
Texas that rebroadcasts our signal on 97.9 FM. According to
US Census studies, well over 350,000 East Texans can receive
our signals. We are also heard world wide through our web
site
www.kzqx.com
WHEN: America’s
Original Classics on QX-FM is on the air 24 hours a day,
seven days a week. We are equipped with emergency backup
power systems which have allowed us to stay on the air when
other local stations have been unable to broadcast.
WHY: KZQX
is a community radio station established with the idea of
serving the needs of the people in our service area. There
are no hidden agendas to our programming past public service
to the community.
Our jazzy adult standards/oldies format
appeals to a demographic segment that is often ignored by
traditional broadcasters. Although we certainly do have
younger listeners, our audience is predominantly in the age
40 plus area. These people are often ignored by traditional
media. Most of our listeners have discretionary income.
Welcome to Unforgettable QX-FM
100.3 and 97.9 FM
Our signal covers most of
Rusk , Gregg, and Harrison counties as well as the City of
Tyler and some of its "suburbs". We provide the widest
variety of musical memories ever broadcast. While many
people listen to us for our musical diversity, quite a few
report that they listen simply because we are local. There
are not a lot of truly local stations left. We think that
is important. After all, we live here ourselves. Our
sponsors are usually local businesses who are vital parts of
our community.
You can reach over 350,000
potential buyers of your products and services with daily
announcements at a surprisingly reasonable cost.
Staying Power
According to experts who
study such things, the music you grew up with remains
closest to your heart. One of our listeners recently
described listening to QX-FM as “Like listening to a radio
version of the Ed Sullivan Show.” We like that. For people
who grew up in the 1940’s, 50’s or 60’s, we strike a chord,
bringing them a musically nostalgic look at well remembered
times.
We do this through a huge
library of musical favorites. Unlike many stations with
play lists of only 100-200 songs, our play list consists
of 1200 – 1500 per week. What’s more, we rotate new music
every week from our huge music library consisting of over
8500 songs.
You won’t find that kind of variety on most stations. This
makes our audience fiercely loyal.
So, who’s listening?
According to survey companies
who keep track of these kinds of things , stations with this
format are most popular with “Graying Affluents and Affluent
Empty Nester’s.” But it’s not just people of retirement age
who listen. There are a surprising amount of “MTV
Generation” folks who are musically curious. They tune in
as well.
It’s not just your Grandfather’s radio station (although
he’s probably listening too).
Recent Surveys tell us that our audience skews approximately
60% women and 40% men.
