RATS! What a Party!!

Favorite Island Rat Recipe: You take 385lb of fish, batter in 60lb of meal, add 60lb of hushpuppies, 60gal of potatoes and fry all the above in 32gal of oil. Add 10gal of beans, 20gal of coleslaw and LOTS of ketchup. Throw in a bunch of sweets for dessert, and what have you got?
"Sink the Island"
The Island Rats' prayers to the Island Gods were answered this year...NO RAIN! But it was HOT...and apparently Island Rats like it hot...'cause there were LOTS of the with beach sand between their toes, stylin' in their beach attire, groovin' to the band, soakin' up the rays, volleyballin' and eatin' and chillin'... fulfilling the spirit of the Island and making the Sink the Island party a gimongous success once again! Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Sink the Island party including fishermen Ancil Boatman, Larry Gideon, Rocky and Earl Griffin, Gary Adams, Johnny Bagley, Don Hestler, Angela Dunlap, Billy Dock Evans, Mike Sanders, and Clayton Evans. The yummy beans and coleslaw were provided by Adam's Rib in Lakeport (thanks Gary and Janie Adams!) and the fabulous fries were donated by the Back Porch Cafe in Kilgore (thanks Jackie and Vickie Clayton!). Thanks also to the anonymous donors of cookies and other scrumptious treats...they went fast!
The CooksBattling the heat of the day, the brave STI cooking crew included Ancil Boatman, Larry Gideon, Mike Sanders, Billy Dock Evans, Richard Sabin, Clayton Evans and Scott (Hot Foot) Cole. Helping setup, clean up and serve included Gary Adams, Mike Reader, Angela Dunlap, Kaytie Coulter, Buddy Williams, Pat Williams, Lena Brown, Darrell Wolven, Bruce Bussey, Richard Lee, Matt Florczykowski, Drew Boatman and various and sundry Boatman outlaws. And since Rats don't like to swim to the Island, we thank the gracious shuttle-boat crew, Phil and Vivian Peacock, for contributing their navigational skills and hospitality.
Many thanks to Cherokee Associates and Kaytie Coulter of the CWC office for assisting in T-shirt sales. To support the costs of the event, generous tips were received and 385 T-shirts were sold ...(and 385lb of fish were cooked...coincidence? or a sign? I wonder...). Appreciation to Buddy Box for providing the trailers for the band stage...by the way, both band leaders were family members of Lake Cherokee shareholders! And special thanks to our exceptional photographer, Mr. Mike Sabin, for capturing the Spirit for us on film like no one else.
It goes without saying that this event could not happen without support from the Board of Directors and Tony Martin, Mike Hyko, Shane Leach and the rest of the CWC incredible staff. (Besides, without them, we would not have had those last 4 bottles of ketchup!!Thanks Guys!)
Plans are already in the making for a Sink the Island 2009. The Founding Fathers may someday trade their cooking pots for rocking chairs, but they know that this is a tradition that has become bigger than them...The Spirit lives on...Sink the Island.
