Chalk Hill Texas

An Unincorporated Community in East Texas

Chalk Hill Community Church as it appeared until 2003

Worship services began about 1917 in the Chalk Hill school house, until a church was erected in 1921. Materials for the community church were purchased through donations from the citizens of Chalk Hill.  In 1025, the women sold baked goods and quilts to purchase a piano for the church.  Through the years, the structure has served the Baptist, Apostolic, and Presbyterian denominations.  Owned by the community, the building continues to serve as a spiritual and social center of the Chalk Hill Area.

In 2003, it became obvious that the community was outgrowing the existing fellowship hall, so a group of citizens, headed by Fr. Mike Maxwell and Rev. John Cheny energized the community to build a new fellowship hall.  The building was done in record time and built largely by the residents of the Chalk Hill & Lake Cherokee area.  It was totally paid for by local donations.  The new addition opened early in 2004 and instantly became a center of activity in the community.
